FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Will you do all of the work for me?While I strive to provide a "done-for-you" concierge level of service, this process requires co-creation. I can provide you with the tools, resources, and knowledge to navigate the corporate world, but there is homework involved and you have to implement the advice to see results. When you partner with me, you are not just words on a page. Your story and how it is articulated are important to me. It is vital that you learn how valuable your skill set and experience are to the private sector.

What if I can’t afford you?I understand! Public servants as a rule don’t get paid much, and it varies widely by agency and location. I do offer payment plans as a backup, however; I always encourage you to schedule a free 30 min call with me to discuss your transition. Many times, I can give you advice, people to connect with, and provide many resources that enable you to start building out a roadmap without paying for anything. You don’t have anything to lose, and everything to gain by scheduling a call. Let’s chat!
-
What is the success rate of your services? While I can’t guarantee that you’ll be hired, clients who have worked with me and implemented my advice tend to land jobs within three to six months. I cannot do the work for you, but I can equip you with the strategies that ensure you are making the best use of your time and efforts during your job search period. Job seekers benefit from the expertise of a coach who know how to prevent them from wasting valuable time. There’s no use going through the process overwhelmed by information on the internet and using the wrong job search methods.
-
What if I can’t find any time on your calendar?I primarily schedule all meetings in the evenings after 4 PM CST because I have a full-time job, however; I regularly work with individuals all across the world and in multiple time zones. Please feel free to reach out to me directly on LinkedIn or evento@governmenttoprivate.com with your availability and we’ll find a way to make it work!
-
Is there anyone you don’t work with?Yes, there are multiple industries I don’t have any experience with, like attorneys and the healthcare field. If I’m not comfortable providing a service for a particular job or industry, I will let you know. My goal is for you to have the best level of service and have it be tailored to your specific job. If I can’t provide that for you, I will try to refer you to someone who has that background.
-
How are you qualified to provide this service?Great question. Resume writers and coaches are a dime a dozen. Ultimately, the most effective resume writers and coaches have a shared background with their audience that allows them to really step into their shoes, intimately understand their back story, and translate it from one industry to another. Not only have I successfully transitioned out of law enforcement, but I did so involuntarily. It was a really rough transition, but I learned how to be successful by applying a 3-step process, which has been found to work consistently by every client. Furthermore, I’ve been laid off multiple times, and my intense focus on networking and building relationships has enabled me to quickly gain employment again. I don’t claim to know it all, nor do I think there’s a one-size-fits-all solution for everything. It’s only by speaking directly with someone and understanding their story can we build a customized roadmap for them.

My situation is different, and I’m not sure how to proceed?Let’s chat for 30 min and allow me to learn about you, your story, and provide constructive feedback on next steps. What do you have to lose?

How do I speak with your former clients and learn whether this is something I want to pursue?I firmly believe in transparency and people. You can check out my testimonials on this website at the top, or you can navigate to my Linkedin profile, scroll to the bottom, and view hundreds of recommendations. Every single person has a unique experience, and I highly encourage you to do your due diligence, reach out to these individuals, learn what worked well for them, what didn’t work well, and whether they would recommend my services.
-
I see other websites offering similar services, how do I pick?Always do your due diligence, for everything. I highly encourage you to reach out to individuals who have made the transition successfully and solicit their advice and opinion on professional services. Learning from others and discussing the transition will enable you to form an opinion on whether you need help and who to engage.
-
When should I start preparing to transition?Ideally, you should start preparing at least one year out from expected retirement, etc. While it’s a short process to convert your resume and Linkedin profile, it’s a much longer process to build relationships, understand the industry, and start putting your brand out there in preparation for the transition. Many people think the transition will be fairly easy and are surprised when they encounter significant roadblocks in the private sector. Start preparing now and schedule a chat with me.

What free resources do you offer?Fantastic question! If you navigate to the resources page at the top, you can see numerous podcasts I’ve done where I’ve interviewed individuals who have transitioned successfully from the public to private sector. I also provide other resources like recommended books and other podcasts from people passionate about helping transitioning public servants. You are not alone!

Do you outsource any of the work?Great question! I personally work with you from beginning to end and handle all of the work. There are other companies in this space that provide similar services but your resume may not be written by someone with experience in public service. I personally write every resume and Linkedin profile for every client.

Do you work with people outside of the government?Absolutely we do! Everyone struggles with the same problem, which is translating their experience into something easily recognizable no matter who the reader is!
